Its construction dates back to the 18th century, but there are references to this church from the 13th century. Was successively expanded to such an extent that the monument primitive disappeared, although traces remain of josefino period. In the 20th century its state of degradation was ruinous, but in 1987 began to be rebuilt and today is also a diversified cultural space.

It was the first monastery of the Cistercian Order founded in the Portuguese territory, in the 12th century, in a place with a strong monastic tradition evidenced in the monastery's invocation to Saint John, since, as a rule, the Cistercians dedicated their abbeys to the Virgin Mary. The facade of the church, rebuilt in the 17th century, retains an inscription with the date of its construction: 1152.

Set of ruins of a Baroque building dating from the 13th century, with an L-shaped plan. Reference should be made to the 16th-century crenelated fence, which forms the front of the former Palace, with various heraldic symbols, the tower with a granite spire and the palace structures. The former convent of the Crusader friars, probably dating from 1162, has undergone several renovations over the centuries, the last one in the latter quarter of the 20th century. Its 16th-century cloister, with two floors, has undergone several alterations, notably the Manueline elements on the east-facing side.

This tower, dating from the 15th century, has a quadrangular construction, battlements, and small cannon gargoyles along its four floors. The building is part of a medieval design complex that includes the castle and a pillory. It is also known as the Cabicanca Tower, due to its connection with the legend of a cursed stork that terrorized the inhabitants.

Tourém is famous for its monumental oven. All built in stone with walls strengthened by powerful buttresses and coverage in pardieiros, this, has capacity for 20 clams and is still used.
