Fort erected in the sixteenth century to defend the city against the Spanish invasion. Later, worked as a warehouse and housing of fishermen from a whaling company. It is currently used for tourist and cultural purposes, getting exhibitions.

To get to this beach one must follow the direction of Alfanzina. It is an isolated beach in between cliffs, protected from the wind, with a small tunnel in one of the hillsides from where one may see the caves.

The walls of the old Tagarete pier fort, which served as protection against corsair attacks in the 17th and 18th centuries, still remain present today, separating the fishing port from the marina of Vila Franca do Campo.

Is located in the historic centre, a few metres from the Palazzo Ducale was built by noblemen of the Portuguese court. Today is a hotel of great quality and comfort, where is visible the concern which had in keeping the old lines, with traces of modernity.
