Praia de Porto Novo is small and protected by the northern slope. Here flows a small river and there is a harbor for small-scale fishing boats. The existing typical restaurants offer a wide variety of dishes, especially the ones typical of the region, with special emphasis on seafood.
Hidden from the city of Horta by Monte Queimado, Porto Pim Beach has soft, black sand, very typical of these volcanic islands. The bay of Porto Pim is, without a doubt, a place of rare beauty. Monte da Guia and the aforementioned Monte Queimado constitute natural barriers to the entry of sea water, making these waters calm and deep blue. Its green spaces and fortification, make that bathers consider it the best beach on the island.
With an extensive sandy beach flanked by high cliffs, it is a calm beach, despite its proximity to the city. In winter, a thick layer of clay accumulates at the base of the cliff, which the locals say has medicinal properties.
Located in a bay, the waters are ideal for swimming at this popular tourist beach with a small sheltered harbor. From Facho hill, one can enjoy a unique view of the bay of São Martinho do Porto, which is bordered by the incredible dunes of Salir do Porto. This São Martinho cove is surprising for its unusual shape.
