Designated a Property of Public Interest in 1978, the village of Piódão is located near the Hermínios Mountains and is one of the oldest settlements in the country, unique for its clustered layout surrounded by an extensive green expanse. The first documented references to this temple date back to 1177, when Vela Rodrigues, heir of Egas Moniz and Teresa Afonso, donated his property in Lousada to the Monastery of Salvador de Paço de Sousa. The Alamal Walkways, starting next to Ponte de Belver or Praia Fluvial do Alamal, are located on the banks of the Tagus River, and are located in a valley of rare beauty. They are an integral part of PR1-GAV Arribas do Tejo, a 16 km circular pedestrian route. With low difficulty, these walkways can be walked at any time of year.

A long pedestrian trail, 13.5 km long, that lasts about five hours. During the walk, one passes by places where the milho-miúdo (a kind of corn), the main ingredient of the typical and exquiste "papas de coura", is sown. Enjoy the natural beauty and, from the Travanca landmark, at an altitude of 701 metres, the astounding landscape.

The trail takes two to three hours to complete at a leisurely pace, and this already includes 10 minutes to read and take in the descriptive panels. The panels allow the visitors to further their understanding of the region and are entitled: Campos Agrícolas, Pinhal, Foz and Sapal de Alcantrilha. The sand and earth trail is easy providing the visitor keeps to the worn path.
