The Monastery of São Pedro de Roriz was founded by Lady Unisco Godiniz, in the year 978. Its affiliation with the Benedictine Order dates back to 1902. In the 17th century, notable works were carried out, directed by Frei João Turriano, which results in the current appearance of the monastery. Its interior is rich in gilded carving and reveals traces of one of the most notable carvers of the "Braga school", Frei José de Santo António Ferreira Vilaça. Its style shows influences from French and German Baroque and Rococo.

Temple integrated in a convent, founded in 1524. In 1564, the church underwent renovation and expansion works and a century later it was rebuilt because it was in ruins. During the 18th century, it underwent numerous renovations, such as: application of gilded carvings in the chancel's altarpiece, placement of side altarpieces in the cross arch, covering the chancel with historian tiles from the workshop of Vital Rifarto, stalls in the choir high, building and covering the gilded carving and screens of the sacristy and construction of the cloister. Building of great architectural value, whose Church dates back to the beginning of the second half of the 16th century. It consists of three naves and four sections. The chancel, pombalina, decorating is covered by a false dome and another highlight, the holy water and sinks both late-Baroque side altarpieces. The niche also late-Baroque, the sink and the tile Ashlar are worthy of appreciation. The party functioned as hospital is perpendicular to the Church, has two floors and date from the first half of the 18th century and today operates as a Museum of contemporary art.

Working composed by the church body, single nave, transept and main chapel, vestry, annex and conventual rooms. At the main chapel stands out the rococo carved retable, semicircular vault with perspective painted wood ceiling, representing Nossa Senhora do Carmo and a set of four paintings from José Rasquinho, representing the life of Santo Elias. At the Convent stands out the main façade, with three bodies, three panes delimited by pilasters, angles and ashlar mansonry cyma, with three interspaces for each floor.

A carved stone wall with a niche where you can see a Gothic-style Nossa Senhora is what remains, in the current Cathedral, of the former church of the Dominican convent (1423). Highlight for the side chapels, one with a limestone altarpiece, from the 16th century, and another with a carved wooden altarpiece where a statue of Nossa Senhora do Rosário appears. In 1719 a new Baroque façade was built and in the mid-18th century the high choir and roof were built, and the chancel was renovated. In 1860 the bell tower was built.

Building ordered by D. Luís de Meneses, lord of Pancas and Ponte da Barca, foreiro of the Comendadeiras de Santos-o-Novo in the second half of the XVII century.
