Inicialmente denominado Espaço Por Timor, foi inaugurado em 27 de Abril de 1993 como ponto de encontro da cultura e da luta dos timorenses pela sua identidade. Contém uma biblioteca especializada de livre acesso, com cerca de 1.500 títulos – entre monografias, publicações periódicas, registos cartográficos, fotográficos, áudio e vídeo – sobre Timor: História, Religião, Arquitectura, Literatura, Educação, Antropologia, Ciências Sociais e Políticas e Direitos Humanos, entre outros.
