More than ever, it is important to keep your body and mind healthy, and nothing better than regular physical exercise to achieve this. There is no shortage of outdoor places to run in Porto, either on the road or on uneven terrain, with a greater or lesser degree of difficulty. Without neglecting the views, so that you do not lack extra motivation, there are options in the riverfront, on the beach, in gardens or parks. If you are a beginner, do not be intimidated, start with a walk, and increase the degree of training intensity. The important thing is to go and enjoy in a relaxing contact with Nature!
The City Park is the largest green space in the city of Porto, making it one of the favourite spots for those who enjoy trail running. With its uphill and downhill tracks, it is ideal for a more intense workout. With an area of 83 hectares that extends to the sea, it is a beautiful space, including a lake with ducks and various support infrastructures.
About 5.5 kilometres long, with several ascents and descents, this avenue begins at the Boavista Street and ends at the Gonçalves Zarco Plaza, also known as Castelo do Queijo (Castle of Cheese), by the sea. We therefore recommend a run at the end of the day, with a luxury finish: enjoying the sunset in front of the sea.
When running on Brasil Avenue, in the well-known area of Foz, where the Douro river meets the sea, you will have a privileged view of the horizon as a backdrop. Area of excellence for running in Porto, it provides ample space, with demarcated areas for running and cycling. Take a break at the beautiful Pérgola da Foz, a pathway that follows the sea line, and enjoy the panoramic view.
Gardens of the Crystal Palace
It is impossible to talk about places to run in Porto without immediately mentioning the magnificent Gardens of the Crystal Palace. Among the leafy trees, the lake, fountains, and animals that roam freely, the ideal environment for a perfect run is created. Without forgetting the bonus, of course, that is the beautiful view over the Douro River from the highest points.
Gaia’s Sea side
The coastal area of Gaia, with its beautiful beaches, is a great choice for running in Porto, always with the sea as a company. With an exceptionally long breakwater, and a wooden walkway that connects Afurada to Espinho, it is one of the most beautiful routes in the northern region.
