This route allows visitors to discover the tradition of lime extraction, which for many years was part of life in São Vicente, the only place in Madeira where limestone exists. The aim is, therefore, to recreate an activity that took place until the mid-1970s.

The Museum Centre - Lime Route encompasses several sites of interest related to the natural, built and cultural heritage of São Vicente in an area of ​​approximately 12,000 square meters. Among these, in addition to all the local scenic beauty, are two limestone quarries, a lime kiln and other buildings supporting production such as haystacks, terraces and irrigation channels, elements that are quite characteristic of the Madeiran rural landscape.

Built between the 17th and 18th centuries in the traditional Madeiran civil style, this house was the birthplace of Dr. Horácio Bento de Gouveia. It was adapted into a House-Museum in 1986, where you can find objects related to the professional life of this Madeiran writer, journalist, and professor, as well as antique pieces.

This space aims to combine culture and knowledge with leisure and entertainment. To this end, it features a pavilion that allows visitors to watch audiovisual shows that recreate the geological evolution of caves, a volcanic eruption, and even a simulation of the birth of the Madeira Archipelago.
