In 1377, King Fernando ordered the construction of the first church to house the sacred image and accommodate the large number of pilgrims visiting Our Lady of Nazaré. Nazaré beach, located in a beautiful bay, is very popular with tourists and surrounded by lush cliffs, where a panoramic elevator operates. Every Saturday, from May to June, there are demonstrations of the Xávega art, a type of dragnet fishing on the verge of extinction, characterized by casting a net approximately 500 meters from the coast, which is then pulled ashore by oxen. Also typical are the so-called "paneiros" (pans) placed on the sand, where the fish is dried. The museum, inaugurated in 1996 in the right wing of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, in the former Dispatch House, exhibits liturgical objects, silverware, statuettes, historical documents, and vestments, mostly from offerings made by devotees to Our Lady of Nazaré.

This house-museum, dedicated to the fishermen of Nazaré, was inaugurated on December 11, 1999, and is the result of a private initiative by a Nazaré native who loved the traditions of his land. It represents the exterior and interior of a typical fisherman's family home, linked to the sale of fish in the 1930s and 1950s. Inside, one can see household utensils and furniture representative of the art of fishing, as well as some miniatures of Nazaré boats from that period.

The funicular railway connects the lower part of Nazaré to Sítio, covering a total of 318 meters.
