This museum, built in the 1970s in the so-called Casa dos Távora, moved in the following decade to the former jail and then to the City Hall building. Among the many objects on display, the collections of metal objects, porcelain dolls, linen utensils, and paintings stand out.

The official name of this empire is Empire of recognition and beneficence, and in 1760 was erected in memory of the volcano eruption of Cabeço do Fogo, which occurred in April 24, 1672. This is a Roman monolithic milestone from Emperor Cláudio, which was adapted to a pillory. It has arounf 2.15 metres high and 54 cm. diameter. In Viana do Castelo district it is the second milestone to be adapted to a pillory during the 17th century, as far as it is known.
