This is a tradition dating back more than a century that promises adrenaline to children who try this picturesque “means of transport”, which is one of the tourist attractions on the island of Madeira. Made of wicker on two wooden skids, the Basket Carts are pushed for two kilometers by two "Carreiros" who drive these vehicles along the route that connects the parish of Monte, 500 meters above sea level, to the town of Livramento, near Funchal.
